This week, I will introduce to you the fundamentals of online meetings. Sounds boring? Not if you think of the details needed for it. In my previous post I talked about Jargon and how at Rate My Meeting we disregard using it, meanwhile describing how it should be avoided in any meeting or work environment, be it in-person or via online methods like Skype, Zoom or Hangouts.

In this post I shall be talking about:

The use of Tone and Volume

A tone of voice is an expression of a company’s values and way of thinking, and it’s not to be considered lightly. It was Albert Mehrabian who came up with the rule determining that successful communication is made up of three parts: the words you use, your tone of voice and your body language. It is important to understand that others are unable to see your body language through their computer or mobile screen and it’s fair to say that tone of voice and volume is the major contributor when attending at online meetings!

The Effect of Tone and Volume

Your voice is a powerful tool. Tone shows engagement and empathy. Volume makes you heard. And both show your intention. People like variation in tone and volume. Experiment with both to find what fits you well - and what effect you see in feedback your team gives you!

Here at Rate My Meeting we help you take care of all these points that further help to ease out the tiring journey of online meetings and even get a feedback.
